Bandage Out 2021

Game 1 27 August 2021, at Saint Thomas Aquinas vs. St. James in Bandage Out for the Clevinger-Cobb Cup ( 3-0) This match deserves more of a novel or at least a short story, rather than just another write-up. So much was going on other than the soccer match.  First of all, St. James gave us the game unexpectedly when they were unable to secure some bleachers. And, of course, BWhite had a vision to make it a special match even though he only had less than two weeks to put it together. (Our parents did a great job of working with him to help make it a special opening match.) Never doubt BWhite. Bandage Out sprang from our side of the stadium and a PinkOut for recently-lost St. James student, Izzy Ford, took off from the other side of the field. We walked out in the midst of hundreds of Bandage-out and hundreds of PinkOut shirts into a joint prayer with a moving prelude from the Ford family before the event became a hotly contested soccer match–Loughman and Do dubbed it "a Holy War.&q

Blue-Gold 2; 24 August 2021 Game 0  We changed the way we run a Blue-Gold Match a few years ago, so as to get a more competitive match. Who wants to watch the Varsity beat the JV 6-0? We basically run 3 different matches within a format that uses 6 different 15-minute blocks of time to assess play. Three of those segments are evenly split teams between our Top 30 players. This match within the match ended up 1-0, with the only goal scored by Connor Murray on a nice throw-in set piece started by Mark Mason. This was a very competitive match with our starting defense of Garcia, Mason, Muckerman and Weinrich turning away our vaunted offense many times. We are trying to find more of a direct assault on the baseline that produces opportunities such as corners, t-balls, etc. We still have a ways to go as we produced only a couple of corners all night—that's a fairly nice indicator of how seriously we are attacking that baseline. 2021 Saint Thomas Aquinas Boys' Soccer The 2020 school-year/soccer season was as strange as we could probably get, with COVID creating new fears daily. Somehow, we not only made it through that season, but made it one of Saint Thomas Aquinas Boys' Soccer's most memorable. We won the program's 17th State title; we finished number 14 in the country; we placed a record 6 guys first-team All State ( Mitchell Farrar, Drew Welch, DJ White, Max Bryson, Carter Diggs and Jacob Muckerman ); Mitchell Farrar became a USC All American, Drew Welch and Mitchell Farrar became USC Scholar All Americans; 810 Varsity named DJ White Male Student Athlete of the Year for all sports in Kansas City. That Senior Class of Farrar, Welch, Russell, White, Bryson, Eames, Morissette, and Pope is one of the better senior classes we have had in soccer over the 33-year history at STA. And frequently 6 of those guys were in the starting line-up. So. But we think the first part of this season that b
