The Great River Classic Semi-Finals of Top Bracket
Game 10 (8-1-1)
1 October vs. Barrington in Semis of the Great River Classic (2-1)
This was quite a different match from yesterday wild event. This match was pretty tight throughout. We did jump out to a 2-0 lead, and we did play a much tighter match than we did yesterday. But Barrington was formidable—they showed that throughout.
We did probably get the best of the play during the first half. We did take the lead with about 16 minutes left in the half when Ethan thieved a ball before turning it into a nice finish. Then, once again, here, towards the end of the half, Kitts juked a couple of guys, got into the box before he was taken down once again. (There was plenty of complaining from the sideline and even after the match, but if you watch the video it was definitely a foul—definitely a PK. And Ethan buried it for a 2-0 half-time lead.
But the second half was a different story. Barrington came out strong and spent most of the half on our end. Now, they only put one shot on frame, and they did that at the very beginning of the half, creating a 2-1 match.
They, however, created 5 corners during the second half. And they had umpteen low throws—all of which were dangerous. We survived the onslaught, and as I mention, only one of their shots was on frame.
So, we survive to make it to tomorrow's finals of the "A" bracket against a team we have never played before—#6 in the country, Marquette University High School out of Milwaukee. Interestedly enough, they also have lost only one match, and that loss was to the same team that beat Barrington.
We play for it all tomorrow at 1:45. This has been quite a trip.

Tonight we meet the parents for dinner at "The Drake" on the river, the Great River that has become the name for this national tourney. The Mississippi.
