Final EKL Match of the Season

Game 15 (10-4-1)
14 October vs. Blue Valley West at Saint Thomas Aquinas (0-1)

Well, we wrap of the EKL, finishing 5-2, just  hair away. We lost one in double overtime to BV Southwest, and then we fell tonight, basically shutting BV West out. But Forcellini won a dead-ball call, and then cleverly took a quick shot while we were setting up the wall. 

With about 8 left in the match, we ran a pretty clever deadball ourselves that seemed to get the thing tied, but we were ruled offsides—it's close: take a look!

But we responded so well after our disappointing match against Rockhurst Tuesday. We were very proud of the boys. West is every bit as good as Rockhurst, but we played much more focused and deliberate.



We also lost Joey for the season in the Rockhurst match, really depleting our wingers, and we lost Mark Mason at centerback for a bit as well. We slid Cooper Welsh into the middle and he and Muck were fantastic together. Mohacsi had is hands full on the left, but he kept working and turned in a pretty solid night.  Yoseph put in some minutes on the left as well as playing the "9" some. Weinrich was spelled by Murray a bit, but he also had a nice match at right back.

And Carter controlled his box during the run of play very well—he did get Ray-Peced, but he needed some help from his teammates on that as well.

Now without Swags or Joey, we definitely need to figure something out wide as we are not getting enough production out there.  We have to get better wide or it will be a short postseason. Our shot totals, t-balls, corners—all things Aquinas have dried up. 

We have senior night left and that will be it for regular season.  With our 2-loss week we have made seeding interesting. We hope to last for the "5" seed, but we could slip to the "6" which may well create the disaster of putting us into the Southwest bracket.

All that is out of our control now. We will call on the soccer gods to help us a bit. 

We will look to get to our 11th win on senior night.

At the Rock

 Game 14: (10-3-1) 12 October vs. Rockhurst at Rockhurst (0-3) Well, the streak ended. In the last five years, we were 4-0-1 against Rockhurst, but that street abruptly ended tonight with a 3-0 knockout. The game began a little bit like Naperville North, as we got knocked to the ground early, falling behind 2-0. And then like Naperville, we made some lineup changes and appeared to have righted the ship, and were now looking for that first goal. But we just broke down with only seconds left in the half to give up that killer third goal that about ends it. Their frosh had all three as well. We played better in the second half, missed a PK, put ourselves in another couple of good scoring positions, but we did not score. But in those 2-0 matches, you need to get to one before the other side gets to 3.  And we did not. Back to the EKL

Game 5: (4-0-1) 14 September vs. Blue Valley North at BVN (5-2) Well, the tournament is over and we start the second quarter of our season back in the EKL, that houses teams who we will play our next 4 games against. Although North is a known quanity as we played them in summer league, we have never played at the high school. The DAC was double booked, so we were relegated to the practice field—it is a nice turf field. Coach Turner does a nice job of coaching the Mustangs, and it definitely showed tonight. They took it to us in the first half, countering us twice with two nice goals.  Their formation gave us some problems in the midfield as well; so we were pretty much on our heels all first half. We moved Garcia to the "6" for the second half, having Weinrich take over at right back for him. Now granted we made a few other adjustments and corrected a couple of things, but Garcia's impact at the "6" had a lot to do with our success in the second half as we blank...
